THE WESTCHESTER WAY - Family Fun Two-Day Itinerary

(Season - May thru September Suggested Days: Wed. thru Sun.)

DAY ONE From Rockland County or New Jersey, travel East across the Tappan Zee Bridge into Westchester County, take first exit - Route 9 North.
10-11:30 AM

Arrival into Westchester County

Travel north on historic Route 9, following the path of the Hudson River, to Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow. (Approximate drive time is 20 minutes) This working farm and gristmill dating to the early 18th century was once the commercial center of the vast Philipse estate. 11:30 AM

Then drive over to Playland Amusement Park in Rye.

Travel south on historic Route 9 toI-287 East and then I-95 South, exit 19. (May - Open weekends only; June - add Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to weekend schedule. Closed Mondays.During summer season, open Tue. Thru Sun.; call ahead for specific hours (914) 813-7000.)

Spend mid-day at the first planned amusement park in America, on the shores of the Long Island Sound in Rye. There are 50 major and Kiddyland rides to choose from, include the wooden Dragon Coaster, the Carousel and Derby Racer with their hand-carved horses, and newer attractions like the watery Playland Plunge. Play miniature golf, rent a boat on the lake, or stroll the boardwalk. There are several food concessions offering lunch fare. (914) 813-7000 www.ryeplayland.org

3:30 PM Leave Playland to drive to any of the nearby hotels.
4:00 PM Check in at any nearby hotels. (Including Hilton Rye Town, Courtyard by Marriott in Rye, Ramada Plaza in New Rochelle, or Residence Inn by Marriott in New Rochelle) . (Dinner may be enjoyed either at your hotel or at New Roc City.)
5:30-6:00 PM Travel from your hotel to New Rochelle on Hutchinson River Parkway. Get off at Exit marked for downtown New Rochelle.
6:00 PM Spend the evening at New Roc City entertainment complex in New Rochelle on Le Count Place

From the 19-screen multiplex with IMAX Theater, to the night-lit bowling alley and the two indoor skating rinks, there's fun for all ages. Upstairs, Sports Plus waits with a rock-climbing wall, virtual reality and motion simulator rides, sports games and the Space Shot, a rooftop slingshot thrill ride. DAY TWO
8:30 AM Enjoy breakfast at your leisure at your hotel.
9:30 AM Depart from your hotel in central Westchester and drive North up Route 684 to Muscoot Farm on Route 100 in Somers. (Approximate drive time is 30 minutes)
10-11:00 AM Muscoot Farm , 777-acre interpretative farm, offers a look at farm life at the turn of the century. Children and their parents can "meet" all types of animals, take a hayride, tour the historic farm buildings with vintage farm equipment, and hike the nature trails. (914) 232-7118
11-11:30 AM Depart from Somers South on Route 684 to I-287 East into White Plains. (Approximate drive time is 30 minutes) Get off of I-287 at Exit 8 marked Bloomingdale Road for shopping area.
11:30 AM - 2PM

Transfer to The Westchester (Mall), White Plains for lunch in one of two restaurants, (City Limits Diner or P.F. Chang's) or individual lunches in Food Court. Free time to shop following lunch.

Explore and shop at a superlative shopping destination boasting over 150 fine stores, including Nordstrom's, Neiman Marcus, Tiffany’s, Brooks Brothers, Louis Vuitton and more. Outfit the children in purchases from Children’s Place, Gap Kids, Gymboree, Oililly, Jacada or several other stores. Let them linger a bit at FAO Schwarz and the Disney store! 2:00 PM Depart for the Hudson River Museum on Warburton Avenue in Yonkers along the scenic Hudson River. (Approximate drive time is 30 minutes) Travel West on I-287 to the Saw Mill River Parkway South to exit 9. Follow signs to museum.
2:30 - 4:15 PM

Visit the Hudson River Museum and its six modern galleries with changing exhibits of 19th and 20th century American art, and the restored Glenview mansion. A hands-on area allows children to learn about the universe by engaging in guided activities. Don't leave without taking in the weekend 45-minute star show in the Andrus Planetarium, featuring the Zeiss M1015 Star Machine. (914) 963-4550 www.hrm.org
