Experience Art, The Westchester Way both indoors and outdoors!  Browse through a variety of art galleries, appreciate outdoor art installations located within several parks, and take time to attend your choice of exciting arts & crafts events. Art appreciation is a common way of life in Westchester County, home to scores of art galleries and several museums. Picasso tapestries, O’Keeffe oil paintings, Cropsey landscapes, Warhol pop art, Calder sculpture and Pollock’s abstract canvases have all found their place here.  Westchester will entice your palette!

 

DAY ONE

 

Visit the Great Hunger Memorial

Macy Park, Ardsley

Outdoor sculpture recognizing the historic significance of the Great Hunger of 19th century Ireland.

 

Drive or walk through Kendall Sculpture Garden

Anderson Hill Road, Purchase

168 acres of gardens on the grounds of PepsiCo Headquarters which harmonize with 45 major pieces of contemporary, 20th-century sculpture, including works by Moore, Nevelson, and Rodin.  914.253.2001

 

Tour the Neuberger Museum or Art

Anderson Hill Road, Purchase

One of the regions finest cultural resources, featuring 10-12 changing exhibitions annually of modern, contemporary, and emerging artists, as well as a permanent exhibition of African art.   914.251.6100  www.neuberger.org

 

Lunch in Neuberger Museum Café or nearby pub, Cobblestone, on Anderson Hill Road.

 

Visit “The Rising”

Kensico Dam, Valhalla

Visit the 80-foot steel memorial to the 109 Westchester County residents who died in the tragedy of  September 11, 2001.

 

Before dinner, walk through downtown White Plains and view the bronze sculptures on Main Street or in The Westchester shopping center. Also, stop and view the outdoor works of art in Tibbits Park on North Broadway. View indoor works at the Arts Exchange and Grand Banking Room at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue.  Stop in at local galleries: Dafco’s Art Gallery at 193 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains, MJ Ellenbogen Gallery at 165 Mamaroneck Avenue, and Carroll-Condit Gallery at 210 Mamaroneck Avenue.

Walking tour of Lasdon Park and Arboretum

Route 35, Somers

A magnificent 234-acre property consisting of woodlands, open grass meadow and formal gardens with flower and shrub specimens from all over the world.  The Chinese Friendship Pavilion was a gift from the People’s Republic of China to the citizens of Westchester. Lunch at Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden

28 Deveau Road, North Salem

This museum features changing exhibits that provide a bridge between the East and West, and a 3.5-acre Japanese garden.  A lovely café on a tree-lined terrace offers gourmet fare.  914.669.5033   www.hammondmuseum.org 

 

Stop at local Charles Michael Gallery at 2 Keeler Lane in North Salem.

 

Tour the Katonah Museum of Art

Route 22 at Jay Street, Katonah

Changing exhibitions and an outdoor sculpture garden enhance a visit to this visual arts institution designed by Edward Larabee Barnes.  914.232.9555  www.katonahmuseum.org

 

Visit a local gallery, The Eclectic Collector at 215 Katonah Avenue in Katonah.

 

Afternoon tea at Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts

149 Girdle Ridge Road, Katonah
